In April 2005, the Oregon State Library board of Trustees approved our proposal to fund L-net for the 2005-06 year through the State Library's Library Services and Technology Act program. We set out two goals and four objectives for this year's grant.
Goal 1 - Provide direct online public service to all Oregon residents.
Objective 1a - Average 1,400 visitors asking questions from July, 2005 to June 2006.
Results - We averaged only 1,373 visitors asking questions each month in 2005-06. This objective was not met.
Objective 1b - Increase use of L-net in each of Oregon’s 36 counties by 25%.
Results - This objective is below target. We have only been able to track about 80% of visitors' locations. We met this objective for 19 of Oregon's 36 counties.
For specific objectives and progress for each county, see the 2005-06 L-net final statistical report.
Goal 2 - Improve digital reference skills among Oregon library staff.
Objective 2a - Increase L-net’s membership of partner libraries by 25%.
We had 18 partner libraries on July 1, 2005 and are aiming for 23 by the end of the fiscal year.
Results - We added six partners in 2005-06, for a total of 24. This objective was met.
Objective 2b - Train enough Oregon librarians to cover L-net 55 hours per week.
As of July 1, 2005, we currently cover 40 hours per week, 10am-6pm, Monday-Friday. We can achieve this objective by expanding our hours and by double-staffing our busy times.
Reults - In April, 2006, we staffed L-net with Oregon librarians for 220 hours, averaging 55 hours per week. During the first full week of May, we staffed L-net with Oregon librarians 60 hours. This objective was met.
