Training Team meeting, Wednesday, August 17
Present: Caleb, Loree, Lori, Deborah, Emily, and Sara Ryan (for Teen Training)
Teen Training
First 90 minutes was a presentation by Caleb and Sara of the Teen Training developed to help L-net librarians better deal with teen patrons. All agreed the training will be effective, especially in helping adult and academic librarians who don’t regularly work with teens. Plans are to present the training at several locations around the state.
Continuing Ed Survey
As of our meeting, we have received 9 responses. We hope that a reminder message will bring in a few more responses. What has stood out from the responses received is that there is a preference for an all-day training and that there is a willingness to travel to receive training. When we have received as many responses as seems possible, we hope to use the results to make a plan for continuing ed training. New software training will take place in the fall which may effect our ability to make plans for other trainings. At this point we’re still not sure if we’ll stick with tutor.com or go with another vendor. Discussion of making plans for an all day event after the New Year. It would be a mini-conference, with a speaker and small group trainings planned. Emily will look for a possible location. The Training Team hopes to be able to see a demo of tutor.com’s new software at our next meeting.
Core Competencies
Discussion of feedback received on Core Competencies document. Based on discussion these changes will be made:

Emily will make changes on the wiki.
Services Team Report
The Services Team has issued a final report that includes a recommendation to the Training Team that more training be offered in finding local library information. Discussion of various ways that this issue can be addressed.
Training Report
Trainings since the last meeting include Reftracker training for Oregon State librarians and NW Christian College librarians. NWCC librarians would like to accept Deborah’s offer to mentor them when they begin staffing the service the first week of October. A training also took place in Roseburg which was an introduction to the service for Douglas County librarians. Much of that training focused on how second level reference works and how the service addresses quality control issues. A follow-up training on reftracker took place for two Multnomah County librarians. Upcoming trainings include Albany and Springfield.
Next meeting will be scheduled via email.
