L-net training committee meeting minutes -

July 20, 2005

Present: Loree, Deborah, Caleb, Emily, Lori

Items discussed:

Core Compentencies/Training Tip
Loree sent out Tip - one suggestion returned: need help finding “help” on vrt software. Loree will get more information.
Discussed need for links from core competencies to information and tips for building these skills - Caleb will ask Beverly about following up on this.
Lori will send hard copy letter to Caleb for mailing to liaisons and directors
Caleb and Deborah will present the core competencies the advisory board on July 21.

Continuing Education Survey
Loree sent out last week. Four responses so far with various results. Loree will resend through zoomerang to track responses.

Training Report
Emily reported that she has trained 2 Multnomah County staffers on Reftracker. Next week she will train at the State Library for Reftracker and the following week the digital reference: how and why in Roseburg. NW Christian College will train for Reftracker in Eugene soon. Deborah agreed to provide her services as a mentor to this group.

Training Volunteers
Caleb has been given the okay to work with the Volunteer Coordinator at Multnomah to get this going. The glitch may be getting Multnomah to cover worker’s comp. Having volunteers on board will help us with our double-staffing challenges in the fall.

Teen Training
Lori, Caleb, Sara Ryan, and Anne Guevara are working on putting together a training to help L-net staffers better deal with teens. We will have a trial run of the training at our next meeting.

Software Upgrade Training
Tutor.com will be training throughout the fall and into the end of the year. Caleb will learn more soon.

Next Training Tip
“Summer Reading for L-net Staffer” a few key things on the website to look at when lnet is slow. Lori will send this out. Caleb also suggested chat tips (pacing, tone, using ellipsis...) Perhaps for next tip.

Next Meeting - Wednesday, August 17 11-? in Eugene. Deborah will get room and equipment as soon as Caleb confirms. Anne Guevara and Sara Ryan will attend for Teen Training presentation.
