Oct 19, 2005 Training Team Minutes
Present: Caleb, Loree, Lori, Deborah, Emily, Cindy Gibbon

Cindy introduced herself and asked the group to comment on what we think the training needs for L-net will be over the next fiscal year. She is gathering information as she works with Caleb on next’s year budget etc. The following areas of training were discussed:
• New software to be introduced in the next few months
• Need to continue to get new libraries trained to staff L-net
• New library staff need training
• Training for paraprofessionals and volunteers (probably library school students) to staff L-net
• Training on more general topics like Reference sources or Genealogy sources

Other training ideas that surfaced included our one-day mini conference in January, hosting an OLA preconference, sharing information from larger conferences like VRD, and training for an AIM based service.

Training Report

Emily has held several trainings throughout the State in the last month including:
• Springfield Public Library—might be interested in participating in answering local RT questions.
• Portland training including several librarians from various area libraries including a medical library
• Baker City—several librarians attended with a couple possibly interested in staffing the service.

She also emphasized that L-net also provides 2nd level reference to libraries and showed how to find the form online.

There will be several upcoming trainings in November including RT trainings for law librarians.

A total of 57 people attended the k thanxs workshop.

New Software Transition

Still no demo available from OCLC. Caleb will continue to try to get something from them to look at. We should start practicing with the Tutor demo which we can all now download. We will be able to start scheduling training as soon as we have a little more information. Tutor will make the change in early February to the new software.

Mini-Conference

The date has been booked at UO Knight Library for Jan. 27th, 2006. There is a large meeting room and 3 labs available. We began brainstorming and planning what type of sessions we should have, how many, etc. Caleb will send out a “mark your calendar” message, a survey to get feedback about what people might like, and a solicitation for help in planning. Motel availability may be limited due to basketball games scheduled around that date.

Next Meeting: Nov 16th 2;30-4:00
