L-net Marketing Team

L-Net Marketing Meeting – Thursday, January 6, 2005

In attendance: Brandon Barnett, facilitator, Pam Horan, Kimberly Willson, recorder

We established a strategic plan for goal setting by agreeing that we would raise the question numbers by April 1, 2005. In order to make a marked increase in the numbers. We agreed to ask Caleb to count the other queues such as OSU and PSU. Pam and Brandon will make this request.

The calendar for possible events where we could represent L-Net was started and we will make inquiries into tabling at OEMA regional meetings (Pam) Online Northwest (Brandon) and Oregon Women in Higher Education (Kim). Kim will look into creating a list of Portland Metro Chamber of Commerce meetings. The Oregon State Library will share a booth with OLA at Wordstock, April 19-24 and Pam will follow through with confirming whether or not we can promote L-Net there. Kim will attend the ORSLA meeting on January 27.

Brandon made a wiki for the group and will post pertinent information there. Kim is working on a contact list and has asked several vendors and museums in Portland to aid our marketing efforts: i.e. Powells, Portland Art Museum and the Oregon Historical Society. We proposed that a serious letter should be written to the academic and public library directors and posted on email lists disseminated from the Oregon State Library (Caleb & Pam). Brandon will write weekly upbeat updates and send messages about L-Net to the Libs-Or, Oslist, and OEMA email lists in order to generate interest in the service. We will mine Caleb’s blog for good spots for the emails.

Distribute bookmarks to wireless coffee shops.
Go to more events.
Talk to non-library groups.
Public library parties with the rotating kit.

Promotional materials—
Use café press immediately to make t-shirts for upcoming events. In the long term, contact OSI and inquire about ends of runs.

The group started a rough draft of the public service announcement to be completed via email.
