more colors and strange fonts in transcripts

in

Emily found a few more transcripts with colors and other HTML styling in them. You can see it on the QuestionPoint site too.

I think it is great fun, but it is a potential security problem because it means a patron can send you an embedded link to anything - an image, movies, malicious code - that will display or run when you look at the transcript. I reported it to OCLC and it should be easy for them to fix.

It's interesting that this is precisely the kind of security problem that people worry about with IM, that the patron/other user will send something that messes with your local computer.

If you're using a regular IM client, there are controls and options about who can send you images and files and who can't. I haven't used Meebo or other web IM clients much, so I'm not sure if embedding and HTML image or movie or piece of malicious code would be a problem, but something tells me the IM people have it figured out already.
