Transcript evaluation instructions
The goal of evaluating our digital reference transcripts is to determine how closely our service meets our service guidelines.
A preliminary examination of how we could measure our service guidelines and QANDNJ's worksheet helped us devise this process.
Each transcript takes about 5 minutes to evaluate. It is helpful to work with another person and discuss the transcript.

  1. Label your evaluation sheet with the number or code for your transcript.
  2. Read the transcript all the way through.
  3. As you read, use a marker to black out any remaining references to the patron or librarian's identity.
  4. At the top of the evaluation worksheet, check as many "category" boxes as apply.
  5. Fill out the evaluation worksheet, re-reading the transcript as you go.
  6. Mark items or passages you have questions about with a marker.
  7. Total the columns for yes, no, and n/a.

The evaluation worksheet can be downloaded or printed from http://www.oregonlibraries.net/staff/evaluate.shtml.

Results of the February, 2004 two-week sampling (evaluated Feb-April, 2004) are at http://www.oregonlibraries.net/staff/docs/feb_04_eval_results.xls
