text messaging training schedule

Training on our new text messaging reference service is available for anyone who would like it. The training is not required, but will give you an overview of the new service, information about how best to answer texting questions, and hands-on practice with the software we'll be using to answer questions. Librarians who have never sent text messages are especially encouraged to attend.

It's not required, but if you have a cell phone and can send text messages, please bring your phone to the training.

shortcuts

The other day while using a windows shortcut I inadvertently discovered that some shortcuts work in spark.

I'm not a big user of shortcuts, but if you are, try these out in spark:

F10 opens the spark menu

ALT+F4: minimizes spark

F8 opens a spark browser window - if you click on the browse button, you get a bunch of options. If you click on "fastpath" you'll see a bunch of Oregon groups. But then what? If anyone can figure out what this is for, I'd like to know.

New software training!

Our new L-net software is ready and will be delivered to us very soon.

I've scheduled trainings around the state. My hope is to get most current L-net librarians trained during the last two weeks of August. We expect to start serving patrons with the new software September 15.

Training will include hands-on practice with the new chat software and the new email software.

I wanted to send out an announcement today so that you could all make adjustments in your schedules to attend training. Besides the trainings listed below, I expect to schedule trainings in Bend, Eugene, and Corvallis. There may be another Portland area training in addition to the ones listed below. I'll send out another announcement as soon as those are scheduled.

As soon as we get through this transition to new software, I expect to begin scheduling trainings for librarians new to L-net.

Some of the computer labs have limited space. If you'd like to attend one of these trainings, please contact me to register.

I'll be working away from the library Aug. 1 - 6 so I may be a little slow about returning messages, but I'll confirm registrations as soon as I can.

The scheduled trainings are:

Monday, August 18, 2:00 - 4:00
