Do you know if there is an obituary index or death index for Portland? I am looking for a family who lived in Oregon for years and would have died in the early to mid 1900's.

librarian: Hi Anonymous, I'm librarian- a librarian from neighboring Washington County (next to portland) -
librarian: There is an Oregon Death Index online at:
anonymous: Is it different than the one on ancestry.com?
anonymous: Are you aware of an obituary index for Portland?
librarian: No, it's probably the same I think - one sec while i get you some other resources
anonymous: Thanks, what does that include?
librarian: It's a list of links to explore - more oregon and portland specific links at the Multnomah County Library -http://multcolib.org/ref/gene.html
librarian: genealogy at oregon state archives - http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/banners/genealogy.htm
anonymous: Okay, thanks. I'll give them a try.
librarian: Vital records are the birth/death, etc - from this agency - http://arcweb.sos.state.or.us/vital.html
anonymous: Thanks!
librarian: You can search portland births and deaths of early oregon (19th and early 20th century here)
librarian: Did that get you any further along? It's a bit more than just the ancestry oregon death index. Also contact Multnomah County Library directly about looking for obits in particular newspaper microfilm, etc.
anonymous: Yes. I'll check them all out!
librarian: Is there anything else I can point you to at this moment?
anonymous: Not at this time, thanks!
librarian: thanks for using L-Net - let us know if you need help! Librarians are here 24/7 - Good night! - Librarian
anonymous: Good night!
