Question by buzz@oregonlibraries.net on Sun, 06/14/2009 - 3:51pm

My mom wants to find out if flying through a private plane or a plane is cheaper can you help me find that out and if a private plane is cheaper who provides to service?

librarian: Welcome
anonymous: Thanks
librarian: Just a moment while I read through your question
librarian: I am a librarian in Ohio who helps answer questions from people in Oregon on evenings and weekends. Your library has provided me with some information I can use to help you.
anonymous: Ok cool
librarian: It might depend on what type of trip you plan to take
librarian: There are services such as this one
librarian: Sometimes people use private planes to go to places where there is no regularly scheduled service
anonymous: Ok cool
librarian: Sample fares for this service are here
anonymous: I am looking to fly to california though
librarian: Just for an idea
librarian: Fares are calculated at $230 per hour for the time the airplane is in the air, including any empty legs (for instance, returning the plane home without passengers). Fares are calculated using the above-listed times, and a 1-hour minimum flight time will apply. Actual air time may vary depending on weather conditions. A Federal Excise Tax of 7.5% is added to the total fare. Rates are subject to change without notice.
librarian: We can look for commercial flights.
anonymous: ohh wow
anonymous: Ok cool
librarian: What cities?
anonymous: Portland Oregon to California San Jose
librarian: Let me know if this page opens for you
librarian: It shows commercial airlines which fly out of Portland Oregon
anonymous: It showed up ;)
librarian: ok
librarian: I have found that Alaska Airlines and American fly to San Jose
anonymous: Ok
anonymous: It says City Arriving From/Departing To: how do I do that.
librarian: You can use this page
librarian: It is American Airlines, should show other flights too.
librarian: You will need to give some sample dates
anonymous: ok cool
librarian: Let me know if it opens for you
librarian: Use PDX for Portland and SJC for San Jose
anonymous: It did
anonymous: Thanks very much I will keep looking over this ;)
librarian: Thanks for using our service. Come back again if you need help with another question.
